4th February 2012 Ashford & District 10K Cancelled
Following a course inspection and in view of the poor
weather conditions forecast for this evening, tomorrow's Ashford &
District 10K has been cancelled.
The decision has been taken with great reluctance but was based on the following:
- There is a 2 kilometre section of the course very badly iced and if the race was to run now we would consider it too dangerous
- There is virtually no chance of the section thawing before race time tomorrow
-
The weather forecast for tonight is for snow. Whether this snow
actually falls on the course or in the region it has the potential to
make conditions difficult for runners to travel to and from the event.
We have runners coming from all over the south east and it is only fair
for those who need to make travel plans to try and make an early
decision.
In other words, we believe that we are taking the sensible, if regrettable decision.
If the snow that has been confidently forecast to arrive tonight does
materialise, I believe that on reflection most people would have
expected us to make this decision - and make it today not tomorrow
morning.
So, we are sorry to cancel, but the race is going to
be rescheduled and we will check with the local authorities and race
venue before making an announcement.
We will be in touch shortly with full details of the rescheduled event.
Thanks for your understanding.
2nd February 2012 Ashford & District 10K Weather contingencies
The Barretts Ashford & District 10k
takes place this Sunday February 5th.
Please note that the race is
now sold out, there are no places left and no entries will be taken on the day.
There is a chance that the area
could see bad weather over the weekend and, although we are continuing our
arrangements for staging the race, we need to be mindful that the weather could
affect the race. The current BBC weather forecast is vague and mentions the
possibility of snow. A more detailed weather forecast for Ashford on www.netweather.tv indicates a strong
possibility of snow early on Saturday Morning and further snow throughout
Sunday. We will continue to monitor the forecasts right up until
Sunday.
In the event of the race being placed in
any danger of cancellation, steps will be taken depending on the timescale as
follows:
Today (Thursday 2nd February).
There is nothing to suggest that the race
is in any danger other than the weather forecasts as detailed
above.
Tomorrow (Friday 3rd February).
We will continue to monitor the forecasts
and if, by Friday evening, there appears to be an increased likelihood of snow
we will consider a preliminary announcement that the race could be in danger.
Saturday
If there is significant snowfall we will,
in conjunction with the club, consider an early cancellation of the race if we
believe that either the course is unsafe and unlikely to improve, or that
conditions are such that runners will find the journey to Ashford difficult. If
there is no significant snow in the region, an announcement will be made that
the race is on - subject to no further deterioration in weather
conditions.
Sunday
If conditions have deteriorated overnight
sufficiently to cast doubts on the safety of participants in the race, an
announcement that the race has been cancelled will be made as soon as possible.
Unless there is an announcement that the
race has been cancelled you should assume that the race is
ON.
Announcements will be made as
follows:
1. If time allows an email will be sent to
all those for whom we hold a legible email address. If the email address we hold is a work email and
you have no access over the weekend, please consider sending us an alternative
email address. If the cancellation is announced on Sunday we may not be able to
make the announcement by email if the race team is already in place at Race
HQ.
2. An announcement will be made via the
Nice Work Facebook page and the Ashford & District Road Runners Club
Facebook Page.
3. An announcement will be made via the
Nice Work Twitter feed @niceworkrun
4. An announcement will be made on the
LATEST NEWS page on the Nice Work website - www.nice-work.org.uk
5. An announcement will be made via the
Forum on the Runners World race page for the Ashford & District 10K
Please note that for technical reasons we
will not be able to make announcements via the Ashford & District Club
website or the Ashford & District 10K race
website.
If the race takes place then no
refunds will be given for those who don’t take part. Consideration will be given
to offer a deferred entry to those who genuinely cannot travel to the race
because of weather conditions in their own area.
You will appreciate that both
Nice Work and the Club will do everything we can to make sure the race goes
ahead as planned - but that at all times the safety of runners, those travelling
with runners, marshals, the race team and officials is paramount. The decision
to cancel will be taken by the Club and follow advice from the Race and Course
Directors. Please respect this decision!
If you have any questions about
the race, please email info@nice-work.org.uk
Kind regards
Martin Burke

18th December 2011 Kent Christmas Cracker - a great way to end the year!!
Well we
all enjoyed the Kent Christmas Cracker this morning – and by the sound of things
you all did as well!
We
enjoyed a record turnout, encouraged by a lovely sunny start to the day, we saw
Santas and elves and we didn't run out of mince
pies!!
So,
thank you to all of you who supported today’s race and congratulations to our race winners Chris Holmes from Invicta East
Kent and our lady winner, Janine Brown from Ashford AC; and to our team winners
Invicta East Kent who picked up the ladies team prize and Deal Tri who collected
the mens.
The
provisional results of the race are on the results page of our website www.nice-work.org.uk
Once
again, thank you for your support today and on behalf of the Nice Work race
team, have a great Christmas and good running in 2012 and we'll hopefully see
you back at Fowlmead next Christmas.
17th December 2011 - Pudding Dash provisional results
Thank
you to those who supported today's Christmas Pudding Dash - and my, didn’t you
turn up by the coachload!! There was not a single piece of Ashburnham's lovely
grounds left available for car parking - and we apologise to the occupants of
the five cars that couldn't get into the grounds, but the race had already
started and we couldn't risk the safety of runners. The wonderful-to-wake up
to blue sky and sunshine encouraged many of you to join us and so it was a bit
manic, with the last minute rush to sign on threatening to overwhelm us, but I
think we got everybody out to the start line who wanted to
run.
There
were some puzzled looks at the end when some of you couldn't understand why you
had a Kent Christmas Cracker medal - I was puzzled too. And so too will those
who will be taking part in the Kent Christmas Cracker race tomorrow when they
receive a Pudding Dash medal!! (Actually they won't, we do have a secret stash
of Rudolph medals for them!). If you would like a proper Pudding Dash medal
just let me know and we'll get one to you.
On your
behalf I'd like to thank the staff of Ashburnham Place for putting up with us
again - the poor souls must wonder what has hit them - it's peace and quiet for
51 and a half weeks a year! I’d also like to thank Hastings Runners, not only
for their usual marvellous support and good humour but also for the loan of the
Finish Line Clock. It made a change from the Finish Line
Calendar.
Congratulations to our race winners Adam Clark from Hastings AC and
our lady winner, Susie Casebourne from Bexhill Runners; and to our team winners
Hastings AC, who picked up both men's and ladies team prizes. Special ‘well
dones’ too to those who were taking part in their first race - and just to let
you know, you don't need to run with a telegraph pole in every race!
The
provisional results of the race are on the results page of our website www.nice-work.org.uk. These are very much provisional and we have a
couple of unknown runners, a couple of missing runners - and a couple who appear
to have finished twice. We are carrying out further forensic examination of
entry forms, results and timing sheets to clear these up - but if you don't see
yourself, or you think your time is wrong, then get in touch and we'll sort it
out for you.
We continue our
Christmas season of races, with the Kent Christmas Cracker tomorrow in Deal and,
that is our lot for 2011 - though we are back with a programme of around 55
races in 2012.
Once
again, thank you for your support yesterday and on behalf of the small,
enthusiastic and slightly ‘worn at the edges’ Nice Work race team, have a great
Christmas and good running in 2012.
14th December 2011 Santas, Reindeers, Christmas Trees and an Elf
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Santas, Reindeers, Christmas Trees and
even an Elf took part in the Rudolph Run in Southend raising funds for The
Children's Trust!
Thank you to everybody who
braved the weather on Sunday and took part in the first ever Rudolph Run in
Southend-on-Sea. The turn out was good
with over 250 runners taking part in both the 1 mile Rudolph Scurry and the 5
mile Rudolph Run. There were all sorts
of fun, colourful Christmas outfits being worn by the participants, from Father
Christmas' to Christmas Trees to a Christmas Elf. Every runner was given a pair of antlers to
wear which was a real sight at the start to see everybody running off with
their antlers flapping in the wind.
All the runners seemed to
enjoy themselves and have a fun time. Even
though at times the wind and the rain tried to get the better of everybody, but
the runners all fought through it and made it to the finish line for their
medal, Christmas pudding and glass of mulled wine.
The event was organised by
Nice Work and Martin Burke, Race Director said, “We were really
pleased with the turn out to the race, especially as it was our fist time in
Essex. It was great to see so many
people taking part and we will definitely be returning next year for a bigger,
better Rudolph Run."
Martin selected to work with
The Children's Trust so that the money raised from the event would support the
charity, supporting children with multiple disabilities and acquired brain
injury.
Anna Baldwin, Community Fundraising Manager at The Children's Trust,
said: “Thank you to
everybody who turned up and took part in the Rudolph Run. It was amazing to see so many people enjoying
themselves donned in their Christmas outfits running along the sea front. We are hoping that it will have raised about
£1000 which will support children with multiple disabilities and acquired brain
injury's. As well as raising crucial
funds the run will also have increased our profile in the area. We're already looking forward to next year!"
For further information about
the event please email abaldwin@thechildrenstrust.org.uk or call 01245 422 554 or 07540 418189.

14th December 2011 - Southend Rudolph Run Results
The final results from Sunday's race are now available via the 'Results' button on the Home Page of the website.
11th December 2011 Wet and windy Southend!!
On
behalf of the Children's Trust, thank you to those who supported today's first
running of the Southend Rudolph Run -
you all thoroughly deserve your medal for what was an awful, cold, wet and windy
morning. But seeing so many happy, smiley faces at the end made it so worthwhile
for us - and we hope that you enjoyed your run.
The event was well received and we will be back again
next year with, hopefully, some decent weather!
Congratulations to our race winners Terry Knightley from Ilford AC
and our lady winner, Caroline Horden; and to our team winners Southend AC.
Special 'well dones' too to those who were taking part in their first race - it
wasn't the easiest introduction to race running!
The
provisional results of the race are on the results page of the website www.nice-work.org.uk and we are still trying to identify a couple of
runners who lost their numbers in the wind - so if you do not appear in the
results, let us know and I'm sure we'll identify your
time.
We continue our
Christmas season of races, with races next week in Ashburnham Place and
Deal and with a programme of around 55 races in 2012, it would be great to see
you at some of our other events - you'll be sure of a warm welcome - you can
check out our race listings at www.nice-work.org.uk. Check too for
details of our trips to overseas events including a 2012 return to India
for the iconic Himalaya 100 Mile Stage Race.
Finally, we're hopeful that
photos of the race will shortly be available via the Nice Work Facebook
page.
Once
again, thank you for your support today and on behalf of Nice Work and The
Children's Trust, have a great Christmas and good running in
2012.
8th December 2011 Nice Work races awarded major Champs status
Three Nice Work managed races have been awarded major Championship race status.
The Givaudan Ashford 10K, which attracts around 1,000 runners to race through the town on closed roads, has been selected to host the British Masters 10K Championships in 2012. The race will also host the Southern Counties Vets AC 10k Championships.
The selection of the Ashford race to host these two important championships is a reward for the team that worked so hard to make the Ashford race an enjoyable spectacle for both participants and spectators alike.
The award is expected to add around 200 athletes to the start line of the race which is looking to accommodate around 1500 participants next year.
And two other Nice Work managed events have been added to the 2012 Sussex Grand prix - a series of 20 races held throughout the county. The Haywards Heath 10 Mile Race is a new race which forms part of the Mid Sussex Marathon Weekend and the Rye 10 Mile Race is a brand-new all road 10 mile race - the only one of its kind in Sussex.
The Givaudan Ashford 10K takes place on Sunday October 14th 2012; the Haywards Heath 10 Mile Race takes place on Sunday May 6th 2012; and the inaugural Rye 10 Mile Race will take place on Sunday May 27th 2012.
For further information on the race management services provided by Nice Work, please call Martin or Cathy Burke on 01797 230999; or email info@nice-work.org.uk
5th December 2011 Manchester Pudding Dash results
Thank
you to those who supported yesterday’s first running of the Manchester Christmas Pudding
Dash – you all thoroughly deserve your medal for what
was an awful, cold and wet morning. But seeing so many happy, smiley faces at
the end made it so worthwhile for us and, thanks to donations of the race
medals, numbers and other bits and bobs, the charity will have made some
much-needed funds from the race.
It was
our first time of running the race and a rather late decision to put on the
event meant we were always up against it to try and attract a large field – but
what we lacked in quantity we certainly made up for in quality. But with a lot
more time to plan and to publicise the race we’re confident that when we return
next year it will be with a much bigger entry. Two competing events on the same
day probably didn’t help – and so we have decided that next year’s race will
beat the Santa rush and we have brought the race date forward a week – so next
year’s race will be on Sunday November
25th.
We may
also revisit the course and see if we can produce a better race route as well –
I guess we always knew it wasn’t going to be the most inspiring of courses and
with the wet weather it certainly made for a tough run out.
Congratulations to our race winners Martin Sanders from Rothwell
Harriers – and a special mention too to the 2nd placed man Matthew
Bigley – both of whom fairly whipped round the course. Congratulations too to
our lady winner, Helen Jones. Special ‘well dones’ too to those who were taking
part in their first race – it wasn’t the easiest introduction to race running!
Finally well done to Vicky Powell for winning the Fun Run – and, of course,
establishing the course record for the 2.5 mile
distance!
The
results of the race are on the results page of the website.
Photos of yesterday’s
race are available via the Nice Work Facebook page.
Once
again, thank you for your support yesterday and on behalf of Nice Work and
Disability Snowsport UK, have a great Christmas and good
running in 2012.
6th November 2011 Beckley 10k results
Thank
you to those who supported today’s seventh running of the Beckley
10k – we enjoyed some great running conditions and we
were rewarded with a record entry.
Congratulations to our race winners Jeff Pyrah, who retained his
title from last year, and Julie Humphries, from Alton Runners, and to all the
age category winners. Well done too to Hastings AC for picking up the men’s team
prize and the ladies from the Rye Running Group for scooping the ladies team
trophies.
The
results of the race are on the results page of our website.
We now begin our
Christmas season of races. On Sunday December 4th,
we have the Manchester Christmas Pudding 5 Mile race in
Wythenshawe Park, Manchester. A little closer to home, we are
managing the inaugural Southend Rudolph 5
Mile Run on Southend sea front on Sunday December 11th and we
already have a healthy entry for that race.
A week later we
have our traditional Kent/East Sussex double
header.
Saturday
December 17th sees the 5th running of the popular
Christmas Pudding Dash at
Ashburnham
Place,
near Battle.
This multi-terrain race is in a unique setting, with a rare
opportunity to run through the grounds of Ashburnham Place – a setting of great
natural beauty with over 220 acres rich in wildlife. Part of the grounds have
been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest because of valuable flora
and fauna. The grounds in their present form were designed and constructed in
the mid-eighteenth century by Lancelot 'Capability'
Brown.
The race details are:

The following day, on Sunday December 18th we have the
5th running of the Kent
Christmas Cracker at Fowlmead Country
Park, near Deal. This multi-terrain race
features two laps of a traffic free course. The course is undulating with no
significant ups or downs!
The race details are:
Date: Sunday December
18th

Lydd Half Marathon on Sunday March 11th and it looks
like both are heading for a sell out. Entries are available online or by
downloading a postal entry form from www.nice-work.org.uk Also in February,
for those looking for a speedy, flat 5 miler as part of your Spring marathon
training, the Isle of Oxney Hot Soup 5 Mile

Tenterden, on Sunday February
19th is growing in popularity and well worth a
look.
Finally, further afield in 2012
we are returning to Bruges on
March 4th for the
Ostend to Bruges 10 Mile Race and
for those of you who didn’t get a London or Brighton Marathon place, there are
still entries available for the Paris
Marathon on Sunday April
15th – and we will be running our usual weekend coach trip
to the event. Let us know if you’re interested in these or any of our other
overseas events in 2012 – details are all on our website www.nice-work.org.uk
Of course, our big trip in 2012
will be our 3rd visit to India for the Himalaya 100 Mile Stage Race – if you’re
interested in finding out more about this iconic event and the trip, drop us an
email and we’ll let you have more information.
Once
again, thank you for your support today and if you require more information on
any of our races or overseas trips, drop us an email at info@nice-work.org.uk,

9th October 2011 Phil storms to victory in Givaudan 10K
On
behalf of Ashford AC, thank you for your support today at the Givaudan Ashford
10K - thankfully the weather held out for us and the feedback we have is that
running conditions were pretty good.
Like all
events of this scale we're sure there are areas that can be improved, but with an
entry of over 900 and a team of over 100 marshals and race officials it is a bit
of a military manoeuvre! On behalf of the race team we'd like to thank all the
volunteers for their help this year. If you have any feedback on the race, we’re
always keen to receive your comments - just drop us a line at info@nice-work.org.uk
The club
is also very grateful for the continued support of Givaudan whose financial
assistance is so crucial to the event and thanks too to the local agencies,
particularly Kent Police, Kent Highways and Ashford Borough Council for their
help and assistance in making this event happen.
Congratulations to our race winners - Phil Anthony and Rona Loubser from Folkestone Running

29th September 2011 60 BANK STAFF MAKE A RUN FOR IT
29
September 2011
60 BANK STAFF
MAKE A RUN FOR IT
Santander staff from all over the world took part in an
annual relay race which saw them run more than 110 miles from London
to Leicester in a three day event.
60
employees from 16 countries in which the bank operates took part in the
18-stage race which took place between 26 and 28 September.
The
race kicked off with a 10k run around London's Regents Park on day one. The second day saw the
runners cover 114 kilometres from London
to Northamptonshire, split into 11 stages, ranging from 9.29 kilometres to 11.9
kilometres. And the third day involved a 50 kilometre race along a section of
the Grand Union Canal
between Weedon Bec in Northamptonshire and Foxton Lock in Leicestershire. The
runners finished with a five kilometre race around Santander's
offices at Carlton Park in Leicester, where competitors were cheered on
by their local colleagues and representatives from the Group's headquarters in Spain.
The
race is part of an initiative to bring together staff from across Santander's international
markets in a shared event. It is the third of its kind after Santander
held previous races in Spain
and Chile.
The
runners also had the chance to contribute to the legacy of the 2012 Olympic
Games, taking place in London
next summer. Part of the visit involved the team undertaking a volunteering project
with pupils from Manor Junior School
to plant trees in Mayesbrook Park, a 110-acre park in the east of London which is one of the
Olympic legacy sites.
Simon
Lloyd, HR Director at Santander UK said, "The
race brings together our staff from 16 countries in a unique event. The run,
held in a different country each year, allows staff who would generally
otherwise not ever meet, to share experiences and develop closer working
relationships."
Santander's global HR initiative, 'Santander is you',
aims to promote the benefits of working for the bank and raise awareness of the
company's values.

Notes to editors:

branches - more than any other international bank - and over 170,000 employees.
In the UK, Santander (formed out of Abbey, Alliance & Leicester and the Bradford
& Bingley retail network) has over 1,400 branches, around 4,500 cash
machines and provides a full range of retail and corporate banking services to

Friday 16th September 2011 Tim and Tina into Europe
Thank you to those who supported last night's third
and final race in the Rye Summer
Classic Series - we were lucky with the weather yet again,
though, again there was a bit of wind out on the course. This was the sixth
running of the Series and to try and keep the race fresh we may look at some
changes to the Series next year. We are also trying to secure some sponsorship
so that we can continue to offer chip timing and, hopefully, be able to improve
our race prizes. The Series will return though for a seventh year in 2012 - who
knows, we may even be able to include some reference to that other big event
taking place in London next Summer.
Congratulations to our race winners last night Max
Thomas, from Hastings AC and Barbara Wenman from Canterbury Harriers and to all
age category winners. Special congratulations too to Tim Elsey from Herne Hill
Harriers and Tina Wren from Hastings AC who won the 2011 Series prizes of a
trip with us to race in a European race next year.
The results of the race are on the results page of the site.
Last night
was our 11th summer's evening race of 2011 and we've had a great
time - the feedback has been good as well - we now move into our autumn and
winter programme. On October 9th we are managing the Givaudan Ashford 10K on behalf of
Ashford AC and a week later we'll be on hand at the Croydon 10K working with Croydon Harriers. In a double header that
weekend we’ll also be in Amsterdam for
the marathon and half marathon - and we still have spaces available. For those
looking for a spring marathon, entries opened yesterday for the Paris Marathon - so let us know if you
are interested in joining us over there.
We'll be back
at Christmas for our regular festive events - the Kent Christmas Cracker, at Fowlmead, and the Christmas Pudding Dash at Ashburnham
Place, Battle.
Further afield we also have Christmas races in Southend and the Midlands, with
others possible in Norfolk, Suffolk
and Devon!
If you'd like any further information on either our UK races or our
overseas trips then please don't hesitate to get in touch with us.
Friday 9th September 2011 Phil and Kyalara scoop the Series
Thank you for your support at tonight's
final race in the Ashford 5K Summer
Series. Once again the rain stayed away and we enjoyed a fine evening - I can't
help thinking the weather will come back and bite us next year though!
The feedback from the series has been
very positive and we have seen some good racing - we're hoping to secure some
sponsorship support for the series next year so that we can, for instance,
improve the prizes on offer.
Our
congratulations go to our race winners - Phil Anthony and Sharon Hawkins and well done too to the category winners
and to Folkestone for winning the Ladies Team prize and Ashford AC for coming
out on top in the men's team section.
Special congratulations too to Phil
Anthony and Kyalara Hassall from Folkestone Running Club for coming out on top
in the Series. We will be calculating the category series prizes and we'll also
email the Series points some time this week. We have a tight schedule with a 3
am start tomorrow morning to prepare for our visit to the Somme
for the marathon weekend - so time is a little short this evening!
The results of tonight's race are attached
and they are also now on our website www.nice-work.org.uk
Our next race is next Friday,
September 16th with the final race in the Rye Summer Classic
Series. This popular series attracts a wide range of abilities with super
fast runners lining up with beginners and those just looking for a gentle
Friday night run out. Next Friday is the 5K and the race gets under way at 6.30
pm.
We have a busy October with the Givaudan Ashford 10K on October 9th and the Croydon 10K on the 16th. We’re also going to Amsterdam
on October 16th for the Marathon and Half Marathon.
Transport is from Kent
direct to Holland
and if you’d like to join us drop us a line. November 6th is the Beckley 10K - a challenging run through the village
of Beckley, near Rye. The race is now in its 7th year
and is popular amongst many runners. With medals, free fruit, beer and cakes
also on offer again, this year should see another healthy entry.
If you'd like any further information
on either our UK
races or our overseas trips then please don't hesitate to get in touch - by
email or check out our website www.nice-work.org.uk
Kind regards - and thanks, once again,
for your support tonight.
Martin and Cathy Burke
Saturday September 3rd 2011 Charing 10K
Thank you for your support today at the Charing 10K - it was a bit of a scorcher and the weather
certainly didn't make our little hill any easier. I think, on reflection, that
we maybe should have included an extra water stop today and we will make sure
that if the weather is similar next year we will realign the stops to provide
additional water on the course.
The feedback we have had so far is that the race, whilst challenging,
was, one again, a good one and everybody we spoke to seems to have enjoyed the
event.
Congratulations to our race winners - Matt Britton from Ashford AC
and Lynn Hayes from Wadhurst Runners - and well done too
to all the age category winners. The results are attached and the results from the
Children's Races are also available on request with all results also now on the website.
Our next race is next Friday evening, September 9th
with the final race in the three-race Ashford Summer 5K Series in Victoria Park, Ashford at 6.30 pm. The race takes place in a traffic free, park setting and the fast
and slightly undulating course makes this event ideal for setting a new 5K pb - and it's great too for
beginners or those simply looking for a short evening run.
Then, on Friday week, September
16th it's the final race in the Rye Summer Classic Series. This popular
series attracts a wide range of abilities with super fast runners lining up with
beginners and those just looking for a gentle Friday night run out. The race is
over 5K and gets under way at 6.30 pm.
We're off to the Somme next weekend, taking a group for the marathon, half and 10K and
whilst this trip is sold out we do still have spaces on our trip to
Amsterdam on October 16th for the marathon and half marathon. Transport is
from Kent direct to Holland and if you'd like to join us drop us a line.

Wednesday August 31st Samphire Hoe Finals Night results
We had a great evening at
Samphire Hoe tonight when we staged the 5K Summer Series Finals Night. Once again the
rain stayed away and we enjoyed a fine - if not blowy and slightly
chilly - evening.
The format of staging two races in one
night was untried - but it seemed to work OK and we managed to get
everybody back and present all prizes just before the gloom set in. The
feedback from the evening has been excellent and we will certainly return to
the Hoe for a second year in 2012. Our thanks go to Paul, who manages the
Hoe with such care and attention, for his enthusiasm and support for the series
and we are grateful too to Eurotunnel and to David Johnson in
particular for allowing us to race and for presenting last night's prizes.
Our congratulations
go to all our race winners - Phil Anthony and Rona Loubser for coming
out on top in the fast race. Well done too, to the winners of Race 4 in the
series Alex Wilder from Deal Tri and Susan Mitchell from Folkestone Running
Club. It was great to see some different race and category winners in
Race 4 so well done to you all - oh, and to Deal Tri who won both male and
female team prizes.
The results of both races are
attached and the results from the Children’s Race are also available on request
and both sets of results are now in the results section on the website
Our next race is on Saturday morning when we stage the Charing 10K from Charing School
at 10.30 am. Next Friday evening, September
9th, is the final race in the three-race Ashford Summer 5K Series
in Victoria Park, Ashford at
6.30 pm. The races take place in a traffic free, park setting and the
fast and slightly undulating course makes this event ideal for setting a new 5K
pb - and it's great too for beginners or those simply

5th August 2011 Ashford 5K Summer Series Race 2
The results from tonight's Ashford 5K race are now on the results page of the site.
Congratulations to Phil Anthony for a stunning time of 14.44 - a cracking time by any standard - in perfect running conditions.
The final race in the series takes place on Friday 9th September.
4th August 2011 Hoe Hoe Hoe
The third race of the Samphire Hoe 5K Summer Series took place last
night and, once again, we enjoyed a lovely sunny evening. This time, however,
the wind was a little stronger and, as a result, times were a little slower
than the previous two races.
Our thanks to those of you who supported last night's race and congratulations
to our race winners Matthew Kendell and Rona Loubser. Well done too, to all the
age category winners and to Deal Tri (Men) and Invicta East Kent (Ladies) who
scooped their respective team times.
The results of the race are now on the results section of the website and the results from the
Children's Race are also available on request
The leading 20
men and ladies from the first three races will be invited to take
part in our special Finals Night 5K run off to see who lifts the Series
crown.
Finals Night on Wednesday August 31st will feature
two races with the run-off between the leading runners plus a standard 5K race
- which will present an opportunity for those who don't normally feature in the
winners' lists to secure a race or category win. If you appear in the leading
20 list but would prefer to run in the standard 5K - that's fine.
Please note that the races
are half an hour earlier - with a 6.30 pm start.
Our next race is tomorrow evening with Race 2 of the three-race Ashford
Summer 5K Series in Victoria Park, Ashford at 7.00 pm. The races take place in a traffic free, park setting
and the fast and slightly undulating course makes this event ideal for setting
a new 5K pb - and it's great too for beginners or those simply looking for a
short evening run.
Next Friday, August 12th is the second race in the Rye
Summer Classic Series. This popular series attracts a wide range of
abilities with super fast runners lining up with beginners and those just looking
for a gentle Friday night run out. Next Friday is the 5K and the race gets
under way at 7.00 pm.
Following this race we will be enjoying a summer's evening of rockabilly
music with The Memphis Flyers. The Flyers were unable to join us for our
Rockabilly Races in May and so next Friday they will be putting on a gig for
us. The gig, complete with bacon butties (!) takes place at the Royal Oak, Rye
Foreign - and all runners are welcome to join us.
If you'd like any further information on either our UK races or our
overseas trips then please don't hesitate to get in touch - by email or

Thanks, once again, for your support last night.
16th July 2011 Rye Summer Classic Series - Race 1 July 10K
The provisional results from last night's 1st race in the 2011 Rye Summer Classic Series are now available on the results section of the website.
3rd July 2011 Bewl 15 Results
The results from this morning's Bewl 15 are now available on the results section of the website.
1st July 2011 Ashford Summer 5K Series Results
The results from tonight's first race in the Ashford 5K Summer Series are now available on the results section of the website.
From
the feedback we have had, it wasn't too bad a first race in Victoria Park. The
local lads and lassies tried their best to confuse runners by switching signs
and directions and throwing signs in the hedges - all part of the challenges of
using a public park I'm afraid. So, too was the late closure of the public
toilets and we will have to see if we can overcome those two challenges for Race
2 in the Series.
Thankfully
the weather was kind to us - and our thanks go to those of you who supported the
race - and we look forward to growing the series.
Congratulations
to our race winners Mike Coleman and Nicola Groom - and also to all the race
category winners.
IMPORTANT
NEWS ABOUT RACE 2 IN THE SERIES
The
next race in the Series was originally scheduled to take place on Friday August 5th - and after securing permission we were then
told that the date was not available to us. As a result we switched the date to
Wednesday August 10th. We have now been informed by the Council
that the rearranged date is no longer
available to us!!
And
so, Race 2 in the Series has now been switched back to Friday August 5th.
We
know that this will cause some inconvenience because we already know that some
people couldn't make the rearranged date and we have refunded them their entry
fee - others may now be unable to make the new date. If you fall into either
category then please let us know and we will do what we can to make
amends.
So, to
reiterate, Race 2 in the
series will now take place on Friday August
5th and NOT Wednesday August 10th.
29th June 2011 Storming times down the Hoe!
When we were asked to put on a series of races at Samphire Hoe we were warned that the weather would not be kind to us - no matter the time of year! So, if the Hoe is looking to give us some poor running conditions it must be storing them up because last night, once again, despite the presence of some threatening black clouds, it was another warm and pleasant evening.
So our thanks to those of you who supported last night's race - the second in the series.
Congratulations to our race winners Phil Anthony and Rona Loubser, who both pipped the winners of the first race Mike Coleman and Sharon Hawkins - and in doing so recorded impressive times to raise the bar yet higher. Phil's time of 15.14 and Rona's 18.33 will certainly present a stiff challenge to those who compete in Race 3 in a few weeks time.
The results of the race are now on our website www.nice-work.org.uk
The next race in the Series takes place on Wednesday August 3rd. Finals Night on August 31st will feature two races with the run-off between the leading runners plus a standard 5K race - which will present an opportunity for those who don't normally feature in the winners lists to secure a race or category win.
Our next race is tomorrow evening with Race 1 of the new three-race Ashford Summer 5K Series in Victoria Park, Ashford? The races take place in a traffic free, park setting and the fast and slightly undulating course makes this event ideal for setting a new 5K pb - and it's great too for beginners or those simply looking for a short evening run.
July also sees the return of the Rye Summer Classic Series for a sixth year. This popular series attracts a wide range of abilities with super fast runners lining up with beginners and those just looking for a gentle Friday night run out. There are three races - two 5Ks and a 10K, with the 10K kicking off the series on Friday July 15th at 7.30pm. This year the races feature chip timing and with fields of around 150 they offer a pleasant evening’s run.
If you'd like any further information on either our UK races or our overseas trips then please don't hesitate to get in touch - by email or check out our website www.nice-work.org.uk
26th June 2011 Staplehurst Carnival & Fete 10K Results
Thank you for supporting the Staplehurst Carnival & Fete 10K today.
The results are now available - please click on the Results section on the Home Page of the website.
This was our first time of managing this race and we'd like to thank all those who supported this event. The feedback today was great - and it delivers a friendly, albeit, low-key event that is well marshalled and perfect for that 10K pb. Hopefully we'll attract a few more runners next year when we may be looking at moving the date to avoid a clash with other local events.
And at least the sun shone!
24th June Peasmarsh-ish Midsummer-ish Hash-ish Results 2011
Thanks for popping down to the Royal Oak last night for the annual
Peasmarsh-ish Midsummer-ish Hash-ish.
It was good fun and I think most of you enjoyed the experience - it does,
of course, traditionally herald the beginning of summer in Peasmarsh and true to
form if you look outside your window today you will see that summer has, indeed,
arrived!
Congratulations to Mike Pain and Lynn Hayes from Wadhurst Runners for
winning their respective races and to Cheryl Wood for winning the ultra event.
Well done too to Hastings Runners for regaining the team prize from Wadhurst
Runners - that makes it 3-2 to Hastings. And thanks to Albert for bringing in
the trophy to give away.
The results are now on the results section of the website.
Thanks once again for your support.
13th June 2011 Hamstreet 10K - Provisional Results

2nd June 2011 Samphire Hoe on a near perfect summer's evening
There were near
perfect running conditions last night for the first race in the new Samphire Hoe Summer 5K Series. A
lovely, warm, sunny evening gave way to near perfect running conditions and, in
the shadow of the iconic White Cliffs, we were treated to some super fast
times.
Congratulations to our race winners Michael
Coleman and Sharon Hawkins and to all those who won prizes in their categories.
Michael nipped round the course in a time of 15.54 to set a tough benchmark for
the rest of the series; and Sharon’s time of 19.34 will also test the lady
runners in the next couple of races. The results of the race are now on our website www.nice-work.org.uk
After the first three races, the leading 20 men and
ladies will be invited to a special Finals Night 5K run off to see who
lifts the Series crown.
The next race in the Series takes place on Wednesday 29th June at 7.30
pm, with Race 3 on Wednesday August 3rd. Finals Night on August 31st
will feature two races with the run-off between the leading runners plus a
standard 5K race.
Our next race is on
Sunday June 12th
when we have the first
running of the Hamstreet 10K in
Hamstreet, Romney Marsh, near Ashford. The run is mainly off road in and around
Hamstreet Woods and is supporting Hamstreet Primary School - with nice weather
this will be a beautiful, scenic run. And on Sunday June 26th Nice Work
takes over organising the 3rd
Staplehurst Carnival & Fete 10K. The race has been switched from
Saturday afternoon to Sunday morning this year and its fast and flat road course
makes it an ideal event to try for a 10K pb.
If you like the
evening 5K format, why not take a look at the new three-race Ashford Summer 5K Series in Victoria Park, Ashford? The races take
place in a traffic free, park setting and the fast and slightly undulating
course makes this event ideal for setting a new 5K pb – and it’s great too for
beginners or those simply looking for a short evening run. The first race is on
Friday July 1st.
July also sees the return
of the popular Rye Summer Classic
Series for a sixth year. This popular series attracts a wide range of
abilities with super fast runners lining up with beginners and those just
looking for a gentle Friday night run out. There are three races – two 5Ks and a

28th May 2011 Tillingham Valley Races
On behalf of St
Mary's Church in Udimore, thank you to the hardy souls that braved the
perishingly cold conditions in the Tillingham Valley yesterday.
One of these days we’ll
get perfect conditions in the valley and we’ll all be able to appreciate the
splendid views - rather than huddling together in the
marquee!!
We do intend giving the event a big
push for next year and so we hope to see a much bigger field - we'll also be
looking to bring back live music to the event as well and I'm sure the
strawberries and ferrets will also back!
Congratulations to our race winners
Jeff Pyrah and Debbie Jackson and to all those who won prizes in their
categories. The results of the race are now on the Nice Work website and the results from the
Children's Race are also available on request.
Our next race is this coming
Wednesday 1st June when we stage the first in a brand new 5K summer series at Samphire Hoe, in
the shadow of the White Cliffs, just outside Dover. Samphire Hoe is one of the
few places that you can truly appreciate the drama of the White Cliffs and great
care has been taken to make the landscape fit in this dramatic setting. The 5K
race gets underway at 7.30 pm, with a Children's race at 7.15 pm. Entries will
be available on the evening.
On Friday July 1st we launch
the new three-race Ashford Summer 5K
Series in Victoria Park,
Ashford. The races take place in a traffic free, park setting. The fast and
slightly undulating course makes this event ideal for setting a new 5K pb - and
it’s great too for beginners or those simply looking for a short evening run.
Further races take place in July and August.
Sunday June 12th sees the first running of the Hamstreet 10K in Hamstreet, Romney
Marsh, near Ashford. The run is mainly off road in and around Hamstreet Woods
and is supporting Hamstreet Primary School - with nice weather this will be a
beautiful, scenic run. And on Sunday
June 26th Nice Work takes over organising the 3rd Staplehurst Carnival &
Fete 10K. The race has been switched from Saturday afternoon to Sunday
morning this year and its fast and flat road course makes it an ideal event to
try for a 10K pb. A week later on Sunday
July 3rd it’s the 12th staging of the popular Bewl 15 by Wadhurst Runners - a Sussex
Grand Prix event, the race has been voted one of the best in the country and an
early entry is advised. July also sees the return of the popular Rye Summer Classic Series for a sixth
year. This popular series attracts a wide range of abilities with super fast
runners lining up with beginners and those just looking for a gentle Friday
night run out. There are three races - two 5Ks and a 10K, with the 10K kicking
off the series on Friday July
15th.

28th May 2011 Littlestone Lifeboat 10K Promenade Dash
On behalf of the RNLI in Littlestone,
thank you to everybody who joined us for the inaugural Littlestone Lifeboat 10K Promenade Dash
last night.
Thankfully the weather behaved itself
and we had almost a perfect evening for the run. The atmosphere was great too
and our thanks to the volunteers who worked hard on the barbecue and to the band
who seemed to hit the spot as well. Judging by the number of runners in the bar
- after the race, of course - the evening looks to have been a social success as
well as a sporting one.
As with all new events the team
working on the course, most of the volunteer marshals and those staffing the
water station were on a little bit of a learning curve but our thanks go to
them, particularly the Sea Scouts for the work they
did.
We know now that there are one or two
areas that we can look to improve on next year - the start and finish area could
have done with some work and we understand that a couple of cars decided it
would be good to park on the sea wall during the race! However, the feedback we
have received has been overwhelmingly positive - so thank you to everybody for
helping to make the event a success.
If you do wish to feedback your
comments on the race to us then we welcome them.
Congratulations to all those who won
prizes - especially our race winners Daniel Watt, from Tunbridge Wells Harriers,
who pipped Anthony Forsyth, from Ashford AC, by just 2 seconds; and Sarah-Anne
Mooney from Larkfield who scooped the Ladies prize. Ashford AC collected the
men's team prize, with Larkfield taking the ladies team
award.
The results of the race are now on the website and if, for some reason, your name does not appear, just drop us an email and
we'll tally times with names. The results from the Children's Race are also
available on request
Our next race is on later today with
a hastily arranged cross country event through the stunning Tillingham Valley.
The Tillingham Valley Races feature
events for children, walkers and dog walkers, with the main 5 mile race starting
at 6 pm. The day gets underway from 4 o'clock at Parsonage Farm, in Udimore,
near Rye.
We've slightly more time to prepare for our next
road event. Next Wednesday 1st June we stage the first in a brand new
5K summer series at Samphire Hoe, in
the shadow of the White Cliffs, just outside Dover. The 5K race gets underway at
7.30 pm, with a Children's race at 7.15 pm. Entries will be available on the
evening.

1st May 2011 Goudhurst 10K results
On behalf of Goudhurst & Kilndown
Primary School PTA, thank you to everybody who joined us for the inaugural
Goudhurst 10K this morning.
We were both delighted and surprised
at the turnout this morning - and with over 150 on the day entries for the 10K,
Fun Run and Children's Race we were a little overwhelmed on the registration
desk. Our apologies to those that were inconvenienced a little by the queues and
to those that had to make do with a makeshift number - but we did manage to
process all entries and start the race on time.
As with all new events the team
working on the course - the marshals, the water crew, the finish line team -
were on a little bit of a learning curve and we know now that there are one or
two areas that can be improved. That said, the feedback we received this morning
was very encouraging and we know that we can make next year's event even better.
One of the problems with a new team of marshals is that quite a few of them are
not used to the stresses and strains of fast-approaching runners but all of them
tried their best to ensure that the race was as enjoyable as
possible.
So - to the marshals and team from
the School - thanks for your efforts, we're proud of you - and we'll see you
next year!
We enjoyed a much higher than
anticipated entry of over 250 runners and we offer our congratulations to all
those who won prizes - especially our race winners David Henderson and Caroline
Terburgh.
The results of the race are now available via the results page on the Nice Work website - we do have one or two unidentified runners so if, for some reason, your name
does not appear, just drop us an email and we'll tally times with
names.
We are aware too that one or two of
the later finishers did not receive a Goody Bag - and we’ll be in touch with
those people to make arrangements for them to be compensated
accordingly.
As ever we are always happy to take
on board your comments and suggestions and we will always look to address
constructive criticism and try our best to improve the event for next
year. So, if you do have any comments you feel we should be aware of then please
let us know.
Our next race is on Friday May 27th
when we are managing the Littlestone Lifeboats 10K Promenade Dash down on the
coast in Littlestone, in aid of the RNLI. On Wednesday 1st June we
stage the first in the Samphire Hoe 5K Series in the shadow of the White Cliffs
in Dover
Further afield, we still have places available on
our coach for the trip to Northern France for the Ramparts 10K on May 14th and
to Iceland for the Reykjavik Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K and 5K in
August.
If you'd like any further information
on either our UK races or our overseas trips then please don't hesitate to get
in touch - by email or check out our website www.nice-work.org.uk
Kind regards - and thanks, once
again, for your support today.

Spring is sprung - and summer is on its way!
Good luck to all of you who are
running this weekend's Virgin London
Marathon. The weather looks as though it should be a little bit better for
running - and a little cooler than it was last Sunday for the Nice Work group in
the Paris Marathon and those running
in Brighton.
With spring marathon training now all
but behind us its time now to look forward to a spring and summer of running in
much nicer weather - and we have a number of races that might just appeal to
you!
Following a stunning Miles for Missing People 10K in Regents Park with 700 runners supported
by 2,000 spectators and a 400-strong crowd, our next event is a little lower in
profile but no less enjoyable! On Sunday
May 1st it's the Goudhurst 10K, supporting Goudhurst and
Kilndown PTA. The race is a pretty out and back course along country paths and
roads around the village - the course is undulating with no real hills and will
suit runners of all standards.
The race details
are:
Date: Sunday May 1st
Event: The Goudhurst 10K
Location: Risebridge Farm, Peasley Lane, Goudhurst, Kent, TN17
1HN
Time: 10.30 am:
Terrain: The start is on grass and follows off
road tracks and trails until reaching a two mile stretch on tarmac road - with a
dog-leg section through a wooded area. This is an undulating course, not too
difficult with few uphill sections and suitable for all
abilities.
On Sunday June 12th, it is the
first running of the Hamstreet 10K
in Hamstreet, Romney Marsh, near Ashford. The run is mainly off road in and
around Hamstreet Woods and is supporting Hamstreet Primary School - with nice
weather this will be a beautiful, scenic run. And on Sunday June 26th Nice Work
takes over organising the 3rd
Staplehurst Carnival & Fete 10K. The race has been switched from
Saturday afternoon to Sunday morning this year and its fast and flat road course
makes it an ideal event to try for a pb. A week later on Sunday July 3rd it's the
12th staging of the popular Bewl 15 by Wadhurst Runners - a Sussex
Grand Prix event, the race has been voted one of the best in the country and an
early entry is advised.
Can we also plug the Hastings 5 Mile Race on Sunday May 15th, organised
by Hastings Runners. This is a fast seafront race that carries a £100 cash prize
for setting a new course record. You can enter online at Runners World or
download an entry form from the Hastings Runners website at www.hastingsrunners.org.uk
We have some great evening events
this summer. Starting with the Littlestone Lifeboats 10K Promenade
Dash on Friday May
27th. Sup[porting the RNLI, the race starts from the lifeboat
station and is a fast out and back run along the flat promenade. As well as the
race, there will be a barbecue, bar and live music.
July sees the return of the popular
Rye Summer Classic Series for a
sixth year. This popular series attracts a wide range of abilities with super
fast runners lining up with beginners and those just looking for a gentle Friday
night run out. There are three races - two 5Ks and a 10K, with the 10K kicking
off the series on Friday July
15th.
We have two new summer series events starting this
year. The first is a new four-race 5K
summer evening series taking place at Samphire Hoe near Dover beginning on Wednesday June 1st. This brand new Summer evening series takes
place in the unique setting of Samphire Hoe - a nationally important and
protected landscape in the shadow of the iconic White Cliffs of Dover. Samphire
Hoe is one of the few places that you can truly appreciate the drama of the
White Cliffs. Great care has been taken to make the landscape at Samphire Hoe
fit in this dramatic setting. The series comprises three fast and flat 5K races
with a special Finals Night featuring an end of series 5K plus a feature race
for the fastest 20 runners from the first three races competing for a cash
prize. The course should be super-fast, but would suit runners of all standards
including beginners
On Friday July 1st we launch
the new three-race Ashford Summer 5K
Series in Victoria Park,
Ashford. The races take place in a traffic free, park setting. The fast and
slightly undulating course makes this event ideal for setting a new 5K pb - and
it's great too for beginners or those simply looking for a short evening run.
The three race series is supporting St Theresa's Primary School in the town and
further races take place in July and August.
Further
details of all our races can be found on our website www.nice-work.org.uk and online entries
are available via www.runnersworld.co.uk. Note that
all our races also feature support events for younger
runners.

6th February 2011 Ashford & District 10K results
A record entry of 900 runners made for
quite a spectacle on what turned out to be a better day for running than had
been forecast.
Following last year's race we made several improvements including
securing additional car park facilities, providing additional loos and also
trying to ease the bottleneck at the start by providing pace signage. From the
initial feedback we have received the race seems to have been well received once
again - which is testament to the success of the enthusiastic team from Ashford
& District Road Runners who worked so hard on the event.
We offer our
congratulations to all those who won prizes - especially our race
winners Michael Coleman and Helena Penfold. Well done too to this year's team
winners Folkestone Running Club (Ladies) and Ashford & District
(Mens).
The results of the
race are now available on the results section of the Nice Work website.

race will shortly be available online at Sussex Sports Photography - visit this

12th January 2011 Ashford & District 10K set for record turnout
Runners from all over the south east - and some from even further afield - will be descending upon the Sandiycres Sports Ground in Sandyhurst Lane, Ashford on Sunday February 6th. And the popular Ashford & District 10K, organised by Ashford & District Roadrunners looks set to attract a record field.
Advance entries for the 2011 race are showing a marked increase on last year and Club Secretary Lynne Oliver is anticipating around 900 runners of all standards - from novice joggers to seasoned competitors - to line up for the start. "Last year's race was so well received that the event was voted the 7th best 10K in the UK and we've attracted a great entry already - but there are still spaces available for those who want to sign up and run".
The 10K race is over a flat, traffic-free course in and around the quiet country lanes north of the town, with the start at the Sandiacres Club.
The race starts at 11.00 am and all finishers will receive a medal and Goody Bag plus there are prizes for the leading runners.

6th January 2011 In Seventh Heaven
Some great news for Nice Work today with news that two of the events we work on have been voted into the top of their respective race categories by Runners World readers.
The Ashford & District 10K has been voted 7th best 10K in the UK. Nice Work manages this race on behalf of Ashford & District Road Running Club abd, with the help of a large and enthusiastic team of marshals has seen the race grow in size - the 2011 race on February 6th is expected to attract over 800 runners.
Nice Work laso provides race entry management services to Wadhurst Runners for the Bewl 15 and this race has also been voted 7th best in its category - races run over 'Other Distances'.
The awards are testament to the hard work and enthusiasm of the Nice Work team and those we work with who try and make our events as popular as we can.
3rd January 2011 Kent Christmas Cracker results
Thank you to everybody who joined
us for the 5th Kent Christmas Cracker yesterday morning. After the postponement
of the race in December and some difficulties trying to secure a safe course it
was a relief just to get the race underway. Competing events moved to clash with
the date and Saturday's popular Bra Run at Deal meant that the field was much
smaller than previous years - but at least we managed to race.
We offer our congratulations to
all those who won prizes - especially our race winners Kevin Williams and Tracy
Jane Moon.
If you have any comments about
the race or its organisation, please don't hesitate to let us know.
The results of the race can now be found on the Race Results section of the website - if your name does not appear, just drop us an email and we'll tally
times with names.
One real disappointment yesterday
was the disappearance of a new Garmin which sadly 'walked' during the
presentation and if anybody knows of its possible whereabouts we'd be grateful
for its return - or just push it through our letterbox.
Our next race is on February
6th 2010 when we will once again be organising the Ashford & District 10K on behalf of Ashford
& District RRC; on the 20th of February we are staging the second Isle of Oxney Hot Soup 5 Mile Dash in
Wittersham - and then in March we have the Lydd
Half Marathon.
I you'd like any further
information on either our UK races or our overseas trips then please don't
hesitate to get in touch - by email or check out our website www.nice-work.org.uk
Finally, on behalf of our small
but enthusiastic team, Cathy and I wish you a prosperous New Year and we look
forward to seeing you again soon
28th December 2010 Christmas Pudding Dash results
Thank you to everybody who joined us for the 5th
Christmas Pudding Dash this morning. After the postponement of the race last
week and some difficulties trying to secure a safe course it was a relief when
the field finally left on its way from the front of Ashburnham Place! We do
appreciate those who made the effort to join us today and we're particularly
grateful to Hastings Runners for helping us marshal the event. Thank you too to the staff at Ashburnham Place for
their terrific work both last weekend and today and our partners at Podplus and
Diligence Media and Marketing for their support and sponsorship.
After race expenses we are
looking to make donations to both Christian Aid and Alzheimer's Research
Trust.
We offer our congratulations to all those who won
prizes - especially our race winners Tom Owens and Sarah Poll.
If you have any comments about the race or its
organisation, please don't hesitate to let us know.
The provisional results can be found in the Race Results section of this site. We
are aware that there may be one or two names missing - we have a couple of times
recorded without race numbers - so if your name does not appear, just drop us an
email and we'll tally times with names.
Our next race is this Sunday when we make a second
attempt to stage the Kent Christmas Cracker and then, on February
6th 2010 when we will once again be
organising the Ashford & District 10K on behalf of Ashford
& District RRC; on the 20th of February we are staging the second
Isle of Oxney Hot Soup 5 Mile Dash in Wittersham - and then in
March we have the Lydd Half Marathon.
I you'd like any
further information on either our UK races or our overseas trips then please
don't hesitate to get in touch - by email or check out our website www.nice-work.org.uk
Finally, on behalf of
our small but enthusiastic team, Cathy and I wish you a prosperous New Year and
we look forward to seeing you again soon
Kind
regards
Martin and Cathy
Burke.
27th December 2010 Christmas Pudding Dash ON
We have checked the course for tomorrow's rearranged Christmas Pudding Dash. Most of the course is fine with a short stretch on the track at the back of the house a little icy but passable with care.
So, the race is ON tomorrow - and entries on the day available for those who want them.
23rd December 2010 Lamberhurst 5 Mile Race cancelled
We have a very difficult decision to make about the Lamberhurst 5 Mile Race on New Year's Day and our belief is that we need to make that decision sooner rather than
later.
We drove the course yesterday and a good mile and a half
stretch of it still has hard snow and ice because it isn't used by traffic.
Additionally the hills down into - and back up from - the village still look as
though they would be very dodgy to run on if there is a frost. You may or may
not be aware that we had to cancel our two Christmas races last weekend because
of the weather.
The weather forecast seems to indicate no let up in the
conditions with the latest forecast being:
Christmas Day very cold, perhaps isolated
light snow showers. Boxing Day dry, frosty with sunny spells away from lingering
freezing fog patches. Monday feeling bitterly cold, chance of snow
arriving
If we were to bet/guess we would suggest that there
would be a very strong likelihood of us having to cancel this race - unless
there is a dramatic improvement in the weather between now and New Years Day. If
we're all honest, I suggest that we can't see that happening.
Our problem is that we have a Christmas holiday coming
up and I think we have a duty to let those who are planning to take part know
sooner rather than later. Some people may be planning special trips for New
Year's Eve around our race. We also have St John Ambulance booked, our own team
booked - and I don't think it fair to give them short notice if that can be
avoided. I'm also aware that email contact details we hold could be work
addresses and so we probably need to make contact before the Christmas
break
So, our Course Director, as things stand right now, is
recommending cancellation - and I think we have to respect that advice. And so
the race on New Year's Day will not now take place. Whilst I know that you will
be disappointed I would ask you to understand why we made the
decision.
Many races now do not offer a refund policy because of
the up front expense incurred in putting on a race. However, we don't think this
is fair and so we will offer a full refund of the entry fee you have
paid. Alternatively, you may be aware that we are
looking to stage our postponed Christmas Pudding Dash on Tuesday 28th next week.
We don't have the same issues as we have with New Year's Day because the race is
all on private land and they have a team of people who will work to get the
course fit to run on - so if people can get to the venue then we can have a
race. If you wish, you may transfer your entry to that race. Indeed, you also
have the option to have your entry transferred to any of our 2011 programme of
UK races - please see our UK race listings on our website
www.nice-work.org.uk and let us know
if you would like to transfer; we will then make the arrangements.
We will also transfer our support for the Alzheimer's
Research Trust to the race on Tuesday. We have loads of stuff to give away for
youngsters who take part in the Children's race and we will also be looking to
make a donation to ART as well as our Pudding Dash event charity, Christian
Aid.
Once again, my apologies for the disappointing news -
but I hope you understand.
On behalf of Cathy, myself and the Nice Work team we
wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy - and thawing - New Year.
Kind regards
Martin Burke
18th December 2010 Christmas races called off
Well, the weather has been threatening all week and,
unfortunately, it decided to leave its mark on our weekend of Christmas races!
Despite the efforts of the Nice Work team and the Ashburnham staff, the Christmas Pudding Dash course became hazardous following a snow storm on Saturday morning. A delivery lorry stuck on the hill also didn't help and so
the decision was taken to cancel the race. We did post messages on Facebook,
Runners World and our own Nice Work site and we managed to reach most people
some way or another. Unfortunately we were too late to prevent some runners
arriving and we are grateful for their understanding.
At the end of the day we cannot take any risks with the
safety of runners and spectators both on the course and travelling to and from
the event - and the weather and road conditions in Ashburnham and surrounding
areas from 11.00 onwards fully justified what was a really difficult decision
for us.
We have rescheduled the race for Tuesday 28th December and we hope to see you
all there then. It is a Bank Holiday and we'll still have mince pies, mulled
wine, Christmas puds and other festive treats - so we'd love to see you
then.
The Kent Christmas Cracker has also fallen victim to the weather due to an unsafe running surface and dangerous travel conditions. This race has been rescheduled for Sunday January 2nd 2011.
7th November 2010 Beckley 10K
Thanks once again to everybody who joined us for
the 6th running of the
Beckley 10K.
Congratulations to those who won prizes -
especially our race winners Jeff Pyrah and Sally Musson. Well done particularly
to Jeff who broke the course record and to Sally. Lynn Hayes, Judy Brooker and
Sarah Marzaioli who all set new records for their age
categories.
In the youngsters race, well done to Nathan
Wren and Maisie Goodsell for winning their race – Darrell also breaking the
course record.
If you have any comments about the race or its
organisation, please don't hesitate to let us know - and if you think the race
was good enough to deserve a rating, please register your opinion
on http://www.runnersworld.co.uk/events/ratingsall.asp?sp=&v=2&ugn=4600&en=56519
Finally, thank you to our partners at Podplus and
Diligence Media and Marketing for their support and sponsorship.
The results are on the Nice Work website www.nice-work.org.uk
Our next race is in December when we return to
Ashburnham Place near
Battle for our traditional Christmas Pudding Dash
on Saturday December 18th. A day later we are at
Fowlmead Country Park, near
Deal for the Kent Christmas Cracker.
Both races will see festive Puddings, Mulled wine and other goodies on offer.
Our planned New Year's Day 10K race at Scotney Castle has, unfortunately, had to
be moved to a new venue and over a slightly shorter distance of 5 miles. More
information will be released very shortly - but if you have entered the Scotney
race we will be in touch with details of the new venue plus an offer of either a
full refund or a partial refund if you'd like to transfer your entry.
I you’d like any
further information on either our UK races or our overseas trips then please
don’t hesitate to get in touch - by email or via www.nice-work.org.uk

5th October 2010 Missed out on a place in the London Marathon?
The rejection letters have been landing for applicants in the 2011 Virgin London Marathon - and if you are one of the disappointed thousands then why not consider one of two great alternative Spring marathons?
The Paris Marathon on April 10th is one of the world's great city marathons with some 40,000 runners taking to the streets of the French capital. This is a great opportunity to run in one of Europe's classic cities. The route takes you along the historic river Seine and by world famous sites such as the Eiffel Tower, Champs Elysees, Arc de Triumph and the Louvre. Not only a real personal challenge - but, of course, the opportunity to indulge in some good food, good wine with some traditional sight seeing!
Nice Work will once again be taking a group to Paris on a two day weekend trip by road - and places are still available.
Entries to the race are also still available - but you need to act quickly if you want to secure your place. There are currently some 8,000 places still available - and you should visit www.parismarathon.com to place your entry as soon as possible. If you have any problems trying to make your entry - let us know and we will do it for you.
Once you have your entry, Nice Work offers a free race entry management service including liaison with the race organisers, collection of numbers etc. We will do all we can to ensure that your marathon weekend goes as smoothly as possible - leaving you free to focus on your race.
So if you do wish to join us in Paris, please let us know as soon as possible.
Further details are available on our website www.nice-work.org.uk
If Paris isn’t for you, then why not consider Luxembourg? One of our favourite races of the year is the Night Run in Luxembourg which takes place on June 4th. We have attended every race since this fabulous event was established a few years ago and it never fails to disappoint. There is a choice of marathon, half marathon or mini marathon (4.4K) with all three events taking place in a fabulous atmosphere through streets thronging with crowds, music and live bands. Our three day/two night trip includes a full day's sightseeing and a stop in Bruges on the way home for lunch.
Nice Work has guaranteed entries for the race and if you'd like to join us, why not book your place today?
Further details are available on our website www.nice-work.org.uk
We also have two events over shorter distances early in 2011. The ever popular Ostend to Bruges 10 Mile race in March is perfect for your spring marathon training - a pancake flat 10 mile race plus a stay in the wonderful city of Bruges with time for shopping and sightseeing. Then, in May we make a welcome return to Le Touquet and Montreuil-sur-Mer for the Ramparts 10K - a Saturday afternoon race that leaves time for a guilt-free Saturday night out!
If you require more information on any of our overseas events, including details of Iceland, Dublin, The Somme and our third trip to the Himalayas in October 2011 for the 100 Mile Stage Race drop us an email at info@nice-work.org.uk, visit www.nice-work.org.uk or call 01797 230999.

25th September 2010 At last - our new website!!
It's been a long time coming - but the new Nice Work site has finally arrived!
We hope that you take the time to browse the site and if there's anything you think we've missed out or should be included then let us know.
13th September 2010 Rye Summer Classic Series September 2010 Results
We now have what we believe to be the final results from the Rye Summer Classic 5K in
Rye
Harbour on September 13th - the final race in the series.
Our apologies for the long delay in getting these out to you but we had to leave right after the race to travel to the Somme for last weekend's Marathon and it has taken a couple of days to sort out one or two anomalies with the results. They should now be correct - but if you know better then let me know! We are still trying to locate the runner who ran with Number 150 and finished in 23.35 - so if that is you let us know!
The Series has been running for five years now and seems to still be a popular series of events and we plan for a 6th series to return next year. Hopefully we will be able to make improvements to the structure of the race and we will certainly have chip timing for all three races.
We take a break from UK runs for a few weeks now - our next one is another popular local race, the Beckley 10K on November 7th. We follow that in December with our two Christmas races - the Christmas Pudding Dash at Ashburnham Place on December 18th and the Kent Christmas Cracker at Fowlmead on Sunday December 19th. We also have a sparkling introduction to the New Year with a New Years Day 10K in Lamberhurst, just off the A21.
Next year we are proud, once again, to be organising the Ashford & District 10K on behalf of Ashford Road Runners in February - plus we will be repeating our 5 Mile race in Wittersham a week later. The Lydd Half Marathon is scheduled for March and we're promised significant marshalling support after issues there in 2010.
We will have some new races in 2011 - with a Midweek 5K Summer Series and, hopefully, a Saturday evening series as well.
In the meantime, or attentions turn to further afield with a large group off to Amsterdam next month for the Marathon, Half Marathon and 8K and then we're off to the Himalayas for the 100 Mile Stage Race. Both events still have some availability.
We are already taking reservations for our 2011 series of overseas trips including the Ostend to Bruges 10 Mile race in March, the Paris Marathon in April, Montreuil 10K in May and the Night Run in Luxembourg in June.
If you'd like details of any of our forthcoming races or events, please get in touch by emailing us or by calling 01797 230999.
Once again, thanks for your support for the Rye Summer Classic Series
