In the Footsteps of William the Conqueror

The towns of St Valery and Montreuil are around 25 or so miles apart by road - but a more interesting journey, taking two to two and a half days is far more enjoyable. The walk covers some beautiful French countryside and passes many places of historic interest, with a number of museums and places of interest for participants en route. There are also a number of refreshment stops along the route and our overnight base will provide ample opportunities to sample the local cuisine.

Your first day's walk is around 8 to 10 miles and begins with a walk around the stunning ramparts of our base town. It's a comfortable afternoon's stroll with a welcome glass of wine awaiting you at the end of the route. Along the way we walk through some delightful French villages, as we strike out towards the coast.

At the end of day 1, transport will be waiting for us to take us to our hotel and an evening meal. Then, on Day 2, after breakfast, we are taken back by coach and set off once again for our big day of walking. Around 15 miles across mainly flat countryside as we follow one of the more popular cycle routes towards another walled city - Rue - and our eventual Day 2 destination, Le Crotoy. After another overnight stop, we will return to finish our journey and the relatively short walk to St Valery-sur-Somme.

We will aim to reach St Valery for lunchtime - and a celebratory lunch before returning to England via the ferry ports.

In addition to the coach, back-up vehicles will also carry basic first aid facilities and refreshments will be available at regular stops along the way. You can either travel alone or link up with one of several groups to travel with fellow walkers. Families are encouraged to join us and can make their own pace on each day. Each day we shall cover quite a few miles - but with plenty of stops, you should be able to finish the route comfortably and still leave plenty of time to enjoy the route.

All meals, accommodation and refreshments for the duration of the walk are provided. We will also arrange for the transfer of any luggage and equipment you require on each day.
