The Wenlock Olympian Society Half Marathon

Nice Work is delighted to be helping the Wenlock Olympian Society once again to stage their Half Marathon race. The Wenlock Olympian Society preserves the ideals of Dr William Penny Brookes - the inspiration for the modern Olympic Movement and the Wenlock Olympian Games are held each year at venues across Shropshire, centered on the little market town of Much Wenlock.

The Half Marathon will start and finish on one of Britain's only outdoor 200m athletics tracks in Much Wenlock and will cover a scenic route taking in the footpaths, trails, bridlepaths and lanes in and around the town. The route will also take in Ironbridge - the birthplace of modern industry and a World Heritage Site.

Leading men and ladies in the race, including those in all age categories will, in Olympian tradition, be awarded Gold, Silver and Bronze medals. All finishers will receive a participation medal.

The Course
The race will leave Much Wenlock and cover a challenging route that incorporates quiet country lanes, trails and footpaths. Some of the route takes in the Shropshire Way as it drops into the gorge near Ironbridge, the birthplace of modern industry. At Ironbridge there is a short dogleg of around a mile along the river before returning to Ironbridge. Runners then climb out of the Gorge and return to Much Wenlock. There are a number of noticeable inclines.

First Aid
St John Ambulance or an alternative medical provider will be in attendance on the day and the course will be marshalled to provide assistance. There will also be a sweep marshal following the race to ensure that nobody is left behind and that all runners are accounted for.
Your individual time and position will be recorded by your electronic chip. We will endeavour to display results as they come into the race centre. The presentation of prizes will begin approximately 45 minutes after the first finisher. Results will be uploaded to www.nice-work.org.uk as soon as possible after the race. All entrants that have supplied a valid and legible email address will receive a copy of the results as soon as possible after the race.
