Help get ‘Taffy’ to steam again soon!
The locomotive, Taff Vale Railway 28, is the last surviving full steam locomotive built in Wales. It was built in Cardiff in 1897 and was last steamed in 1992. A restoration was attempted in the late 1990’s before it was dismantled and stored for a number of years. The Taff Vale Project is a unique partnership between the Gwili Vintage Carriage Group (GVCG), the Llangollen Railway and the National Railway Museum. The ‘Lost Engine’ is now being restored to its former glory by a dedicated team of volunteers. The aim of the project is to return No. 28 to full operating condition and help preserve traditional engineering skills and methods.
The fundraising team of volunteers have an ambitious target and need your help to raise much needed funds to restore old Taffy. How you can help….
The Taff Vale Railway Virtual (almost) Marathon
Take part in our 26 mile challenge during the month of May and you will be helping to get Taffy to steam again.
Why 26 miles and almost a marathon – The old Taff Vale Railway Line is exactly 26 miles from Merthyr Tydfil to Cardiff Docks.
You have a whole month to complete your 26.2 miles, which enables you to fit it around your training schedule and at a time that suits you best. This event is perfect for those who wish to run the distance in one go, or across several activities.
This is a family friendly event (a family discounted option is available) and why not all take part together and add your miles up between you?
It’s about getting outside and keeping active, whilst helping to raise much needed funds for a fantastic charity. All finishers will receive a stunning bespoke medal.
A full history of the locomotive, and more about the project to restore it, can be found at www.taffvalerailway28.co.uk
Every donation is appreciated by the railway, you can help by visiting this page: http://www.
