The Autumn Forest Virtual 10k

We are delighted to be part of this self-led virtual 10k run to help you get outside and keep active during these difficult times.

Forestry England’s forests, car parks and essential facilities are open for outdoor recreation and exercise, however spending time or exercising outdoors should be done locally.

Please make sure you plan ahead with Forestry England’s guide to visiting and follow the latest national restrictions for travel, outdoor spaces and meeting people from outside your household.
To help plan your run and keep everyone safe, don’t forget:
  • Only come with the people you live with, your support bubble, or meet one person from another household.
  • Be aware that Forestry England may have to close car parks if they are too busy. We know this is frustrating, but please be prepared to return home and come another time.
  • Try and choose an off peak time to run your 10k to avoid busy periods.
  • In many forests you can pay to park without cash, including membership which you can also buy online before you come.
  • Some on site  facilities will be closed. Please  look at  individual forest pages before you travel, to check what’s available.
  • Trails may be different. Follow any new, temporary signs. Please keep an eye out for these - they are there to help keep you safe.
  • Bring essential items with you, e.g. water, hand sanitiser, face mask and personal first aid kit.
  • Enjoy your 10k run in the forest!

Explore the nation’s forest running trails in the NEW Autumn Forest Virtual 10k!

We are excited to launch a new virtual 10k race challenge in six of the nation’s favourite forests this Autumn. Running in nature among trees is hugely beneficial to both our physical and mental health and we hope to provide you with some running motivation to get out and explore the beautiful colours of Autumn.

Routes – There’s a choice of 6 forests. Simply book a place in your favourite forest and when you have booked your place, we will send you a virtual race pack. This will have some important safety information, a guide to how to submit your results and a virtual 10k route map. This can either be downloaded or you can follow the forest 10k waymarked trail. We promise you won’t get lost!

Race dates: Between 1st October to 31st December
Run or walk your 10k, alone, with family or your running buddies, and all participants will receive a beautiful bespoke medal. There is plenty of time to take part and complete your 10k distance, you can either run/walk your 10k in one go or across various visits to get your best 10k time! We will send you a map of your forest of choice with the trails listed so you can take your pick!

It’s easy to take part, record your 10k on an activity tracker and email to us at info@nice-work.org.uk, along with your happy forest selfie for a chance to win a selfie spot prize!

At the end of the challenge, all times will be compiled into race leaderboards for each of the locations, with overall prizes awarded to winners.

Participating forests

  • Bedgebury – Goudhurst, Kent
  • Cannock – West Midlands
  • Salcey - Northamptonshire
  • Hamsterley – County Durham
  • Alice Holt – Farnham, Surrey
  • Forest of Dean - Gloucestershire
Or why not take part at your favourite forest!

Please be aware of site specific parking fees. All participating forests have their own parking rates and members park for free. Full details of parking charges will be sent in your welcome email upon booking. Why not make a day of it and bring the family or race your mates (please follow current Covid-safety rules).

In the absence of live races in the nation’s forest just now, this is literally the next best thing!
