The Quiet Zone is a quieter, smaller space for race participants to spend time before the start of the Half Marathon at 9am. It is suitable for anyone who experiences anxiety or sensory differences and is available on a first come, first served basis for up to 35 runners.

Race volunteers manning the Quiet Zone know the race route and are trained in neurodiversity-friendly communication styles, able to answer any questions on the day.

The Quiet Zone is:

  • Easy to find and clearly signposted via the Fusion Leisure Centre main entrance
  • Manned from 7am
  • Located away from the busy environment of the main race HQ (this has up to 2000 racers, volunteers and retailers)

To reduce sensory overload, the Quiet Zone:

  • Is a quieter, low ceilinged room without race announcements or incoming music
  • Has close access to uncrowded changing spaces
  • Has close access to drinking water

To reduce anxiety on race day, the Quiet Zone is located in a less busy space with:

  • Direct access to indoor toilets
  • Direct access to free lockers designated for use as the Quiet Zone bag drop – please note that anyone using lockers in the leisure centre must bring their own padlock and that most lockers are 45cm squared
  • Close access to the race start

Please bring your own ear loops or noise cancelling headphones in case you need further noise reduction. Please bring light sensitivity glasses, sunglasses or a peaked running cap if you are particularly sensitive to light.

Please note that the Quiet Zone is only available before the Half Marathon. Runners are free to collect their belongings from the lockers any time after their finish the race.

To reserve one of the 35 spaces, please contact info@nice-work.org.uk and the team will be able to confirm you a place. For FAQ's, please visit the FAQ tab on the half marathon event page.

Information is also available at race number collection during the week prior to the race at the Running Hub.

If you are unable to collect your race pack beforehand, runners designated with a Quiet Zone space can collect their number on race day itself between 7-8am. Please ensure you arrive before this time if you need to collect your race number.
