Superbly organised
Great course, plenty of water aid stops and enough nutrition on offer. Have to say that the marshals are fantastic and we couldn't race without them
I was in the last five to finish don’t be put off if you’re slow too!
Great marshals, good facilities at start lovely atmosphere. Gentle hills, but a downhill finish thankfully!
Friendly, nice, scenic, hilly marathon.
Beautiful race with amazing marshalls
Loved starting in Central Park. Needs more portaloos at the start, as the loo queue delayed the start.
3.45 pacer was good company and I smashed my PB by following him for first 10 miles. Scenery is amazing, roads are very quiet, only busy road we had to cross was closed so no waiting for cars. Marshalls were second to none and so supportive.
The loop was a bit disconcerting, I didn't enjoy that part, it is disheartening for slower runners to be lapped by faster ones. Thank you so much for a great marathon.
Save the date!
Water would have been better in paper cups… very difficult to drink from a plastic cup at a pace. When running a marathon you don’t want to slow down for hydration. Hard to get going again.
Undulating, but a great route and the marshals were amazing!
Fantastic
A brilliant home town marathon
The marshals and responders on the course were first rate
My 4th marathon visit and I’ll be back again in 2024
Start village - excellent
Marshals & water stations - outstanding
Course - challenging (as it should be)
Medal and T-shirt - fabulous
Lovely location, very friendly race.
Thoroughly recommended for first timers and experienced runners, a stunning undulating course through the Essex countryside. Have run it 3 times now.
Great event. Will be back next year!
Great marathon enjoyed it lovely route and fantastic marshalls. Great medal and shirt.
Only two things I didn't like was having to collect the t shirt before the race and the half and full starting together made it very crowded for the first few miles.
Good race, bit boring in places.
Nice country side run but no atmosphere
First marathon, Marshalls were lovely and encouraging
Having Pacers so can run in groups is great idea but need to be able to locate them, start funnel doesn't allow for this.
Local
It's a shame to lose the High Street start. The mass start in Central Park meant it was a good 2 miles before you had space.
Weather was good, but i do think the marathon distance needs at least 1 water station with bottles.
An undulating challenge with gorgeous scenery
The race was a good challenge as there were lots of undulations which were well spread throughout the 26.2 miles. Starting and finishing in the park meant the atmosphere there was very good, but there were limited spectators around the rest of the course (probably to be expected as it was on country lanes), so if you’re a runner who relies on that for motivation, you might find this tough. Love the medal and the finishers shirt but felt the goody bag could be better (there wasn’t really one)
Couldn't defer
Having ran Chelmsford in 2022 I signed up for 2023, however, an injury prevented me from competing! Having emailed the organisers to ask if I could defer, I got no response back - resulting in me losing my entry fee
Lovely event but doing the middle of the marathon very quite and lonely. Nothing to do with the team or event but drivers driving stupid on back roads.
Brilliant
Roll on next yr
