Celebrating National School Sports Week – With a Running Start!
Young Runners Shine at Gosport Summer Series!
By Hollie Dalton, Teacher at Lee on the Solent Infant and Nursery School (LOSINS)
Over the last seven years, I’ve well and truly caught the running bug. It’s become a real passion of mine - not just for fitness, but for the sense of freedom, the boost to wellbeing, and that unbeatable post-run high.
As a teacher, I believe the benefits of running go far beyond physical health. It builds confidence, resilience, and a strong sense of community. So when I heard about the 1K sprint at Stokes Bay, I knew it was the perfect opportunity to inspire the next generation of runners and show children that running can be fun, inclusive, and something to be proud of.
The children at LOSINS absolutely love taking part in the run, and each month we have more and more sign up. Watching our pupils challenge themselves and beam with pride as they cross the finish line has been a real joy. They’re always so excited to wear their medals into school the next day and to share their achievements with friends and teachers.
A big thank you to Nice Work and all the organisers of the Gosport Summer Series 1K Sprint! It’s a privilege to be part of something that not only promotes an active and healthy lifestyle, but also helps children feel connected and inspired. I’ll keep encouraging every child to give it a go, whether they’re future sprinters or just discovering the joy of movement.
National School Sports Week
As National School Sports Week (16–22 June) kicks off this week, we at Nice Work are thrilled to celebrate the incredible young athletes from Lee on the Solent Infant and Nursery School. Seeing the LOSINS runners take on the Gosport Summer Series 1K Sprint with such enthusiasm, determination and joy is a highlight of the event.
At Nice Work, we’re passionate about promoting physical activity and helping young people build a positive relationship with sport. Events like this are more than just races - they’re opportunities for children to build confidence, set goals, and develop healthy habits for life.
We aim to inspire more people to participate in sport, more often, by delivering inclusive, accessible, friendly and exciting events for all ages and abilities. A huge congratulations to all the young runners, we can’t wait to see you again at the Gosport 5k Summer Series, Race Four on the 8th July!
