When The Race You Work On Comes With A Silver Lining

Winning an award is always a special moment and when you are but one small cog in the whole machine that comes together to make it happen, it is that extra special. The Chelmsford Marathon & Half Marathon is one of the most demanding yet rewarding races to work on. It really is an all-year round project and there are so many people involved in making the magic happen on race day.

Zoom calls, partner meetings, site visits, endless amendments and refinements and then on site before the sun comes up, surrounded by (what to me look like) Daleks in the darkness as head torches bobble about Central Park. Then the infrastructure kicks in, and the people arrive and get ready for their race and you're responsible for the safety and enjoyment of thousands of people. Everyone is doing their thing, be it on the course or the Race Village - there's no switching off that machine until the last person is home and none of this is possible without an epic team behind you.

You try to chat to as many people as possible, but you never can do it with such numbers, and you try to handle any issues at the source. But in this electronic world, people can write very different things to that which they say, and by being open, honest and if needs be, frank about situations, people generally understand and then appreciate that you did your best. So when you've tried all of that and then see the lovely comments and feedback, you're allowed to be proud. You deserved that feedback and you know..?

Maybe being a Dalek isn't a bad thing after all.
