The Virtual Deal Dinosaur 10k

Due to Covid 19, the Dinosaur 10k returns in 2020 as a virtual event. The race is named in memory of one of the Deal Tri club's founders, Roger Francis-Darby, who during his competitive history referred to himself as an Old Dinosaur.

There is a 1500m distance for younger runners and families to get involved too.

The challenge is a virtual running event, which means you can participate and complete the challenge from anywhere in the world, including treadmill runs. You can run your 10k or 1500m at any point over the weekend, starting from 09:00am on Saturday 25th July through to midnight Sunday 26th July. All the results will be collated into a leader board and prizes awarded to overall winners and age category winners.

All you need to do is record your run with a GPS watch or activity tracking app, and snap an epic finisher's selfie to submit with your time to info@nice-work.org.uk. All the results will be collated into a leader board and prizes awarded to overall winners and age category winners.

Participants that complete the 10K will get a high-quality bespoke Deal Dinosaur medal, and there will be prizes for overall and age category winners.

The event will carry a UK Athletics licence and results will be submitted shortly after the race has taken place.
 
The race will be donating a large percentage of profits from the race to the Canterbury Hospital Skin and Dermatology Department and Skin Cancer UK.
 
How to complete a Virtual Event:

Participating in a virtual event means you can complete the distance at any time within the event time frame in a location of your choice. Once you have booked your place, we will send you an email with a step by step guide, it couldn't be easier!

Here's what you need to do:

1. Complete your distance in your own time over the race weekend
2. Run safely and within the recommended guidelines
3. Record your activity with a phone or GPS watch
4. Submit your result to complete your virtual event
5. Your medal will be posted to you shortly after the event has taken place.

The Course
This accurately-measured course is undulating with a flat 4k finish along the sea front; all the road sections are quiet but not closed to traffic. There will be kilometre markers along the route and it will be fully marshalled; the course includes a short ‘dog leg’ after Kingsdown Hill. Lead cyclists will precede the first runner and follow the last runner. Please be aware of any cyclists using the cycle path, which runs parallel to the race route for part of the course.

First Aid
St John Ambulance or an alternative medical provider will be in attendance on the day and the course will be marshalled to provide assistance. There will also be a sweep marshal following the race to ensure that nobody is left behind and that all runners are accounted for.
Your individual time and position will be recorded by your electronic chip. We will endeavour to display results as they come into the race centre. Results will be uploaded to www.nice-work.org.uk as soon as possible after the race. All entrants that have supplied a valid and legible email address will receive a copy of the results as soon as possible after the race.

The Race Headquarters will be at Walmer Sea Scout Hut. The start/finish area will be on the promenade immediately outside the HQ and signs will be clearly posted to direct you. There is limited car parking available on the streets surrounding the race HQ but there are car parks in Deal, and limited additional parking may be provided at Deal Castle.

The closest railway station is Deal and it's roughly half a mile from the station to the race HQ.
