Gosport Golden Mile & 5k

After a Covid-affected year in 2020, the Gosport Golden Mile returns to its usual June date in 2021 - and we're looking forward to welcoming athletes of all ages, sizes and abilities. Test yourself against the best on this pancake flat, point to point one mile course along the promenade in Gosport. We host a senior race, a Junior Golden Mile, plus a wheelchair event for both classified and unclassified athletes.

And, if you've enough energy left, why not try your luck in the Gosport Golden 5k that follows the Golden Mile? The 5km race is a popular race on the Hampshire running calendar, a fast and flat, out and back dash along the promenade.

There are plenty of prizes up for grabs, including cash prizes for the winners of the Golden Mile.

In addition to individual athletes, we welcome entries from schools and running clubs to join us in the Junior Golden Mile - with prizes available for leading schools and clubs.

For Interschool and Group entries please email info@nice-work.org.uk for details.

The Course

The Gosport Golden Mile and the Junior Golden Mile start from a point close to the Inshore Lifeboat Station, Lifeboat Lane, Stokes Bay PO12 2TR. The route covers a measured 1 mile route finishing – obviously – a mile away from the start, close to The Bayside Cabin Café.

The Gosport 5k will start from a point close to the Bayside Cabin Café and cover an out and back route along the promenade, onto a country path around Fort Gilkicker before returning to the start. A very short section of the route is on a shingle pathway, but this is only a few metres.

There will be drinks stations at the start and finish of both races, plus 5k runners will be able to take advantage of the one mile start line drinks stations, ensuring there is water available at 1 and 2 miles.

First Aid
St John Ambulance will be in attendance on the day and the course will be marshalled to provide assistance. There will also be a sweep marshal following the race to ensure that nobody is left behind and that all runners are accounted for.
Your individual time and position will be recorded by your electronic chip. We will endeavour to display results as they come into the race headquarters. Results will be uploaded to www.nice-work.org.uk as soon as possible after the race. All entrants that have supplied a valid and legible email address will receive a copy of the results as soon as possible after the race.
Race HQ: adjacent to the Bayside Cabin Café, Stokes Bay Road, Gosport PO12 2QT.

There is plenty of car parking available along the sea front, but please pay attention to any parking restrictions and remember to pay the appropriate rate where applicable.

The closest railway station is Portsmouth Harbour and the promenade is served by local buses.
