The Monsal Trail Half Marathon & 10k Saturday

Location: Bakewell Station, Bakewell, Derbyshire DE45 1GE
Date: Saturday 24th March 2018
Time: 10:00

The Monsal Trail Half Marathon takes in the stunning, traffic-free Monsal Trail - one of the most iconic of Peak District trails - with a flat-ish, good surface throughout. The Monsal Trail, is a former Midland railway line and the route will take you through four railway tunnels plus across the spectacular Monsal Viaduct. Surrounded by beautiful countryside, this half marathon is ideal for Spring marathon training.

Brought to you by the same team that manages the Tissington Trail Half Marathon - which regularly features in the Runner's World top 10 UK trail races - this race will be an out and back race from the former Bakewell Station.

The race has a strict entry limit and will sell out, so an early entry is recommended to secure your place. Suitable for experienced runners but also a great introduction to the half marathon distance for runners of all abilities.

Prizes from the event are generously sponsored by Big Bobble Hats who will be present on the day of the event. Photos from the event will be provided by New Pixels Sport Photography.

Due to lack of parking at the start location, no vehicles will be allowed at Bakewell Station. Parking is available in the town, which is a short walk away from the start, but please pay attention to any parking restrictions or payment requirements.

The Course
The race starts and finishes at Bakewell Station and heads along the Monsal Trail to a turnaround point at Miller’s Dale, before returning to Bakewell and the finish. The course is multi terrain, on a mixture of tarmac and hard track, and will take you through three long railway tunnels - note, your GPS device may not work!

The course will be traffic-free but will be used by other Trail users including walkers, dog walkers, horses and cyclists. We ask that all runners keep to the left hand side of the trail, to be aware of, and respect, other trail users and take extra care where the trail narrows.

First Aid
Private medical services will be in attendance on the day and the course will be marshalled to provide assistance. Please note that due to the nature of the trail, it is not possible to provide contiuous supervision all along the course. Should you become unwell, you will be advised to alert a marshal, who will then arrange assistance for you. There will also be a sweep marshal following the race to ensure that nobody is left behind and that all runners are accounted for.
Your individual time and position will be recorded by your electronic chip. We will endeavour to display results as they come into the race centre. Prize giving and presentations will take place approximately 60 minutes after the first runner home.

Results will be uploaded to www.nice-work.org.uk as soon as possible after the race. All entrants that have supplied a valid and legible email address will receive a copy of the results as soon as possible after the race.

The race will start and finish at Bakewell Station. Please note that there will be no car parking at Bakewell Station, other than for disabled motorists. However, there are plenty of car parking facilities in the town centre – two large pay and display car parks are located around 500 metres from the Station. The road to Bakewell Station is a ‘No through road’ and so it isn’t feasible for runners to be dropped off – there is nowhere to turn around.

There is also parking, spectator facilities – and an excellent café – just a mile or so along the trail at Hassop Station, providing a pleasant warm up run to the start!
