We are delighted to announce that the Chelmsford marathon returns for an 7th year in 2021 even bigger and better!
Sadly, the 2020 event was cancelled due to Coronavirus but this popular race returns in 2021, with the exciting addition of new race distances - watch this space!
This has always been a major fundraising event for Havens Hospices and, because of the pandemic and cancelation of the 2020 race, the 2021 event will carry even more importance. Your entry will be helping to provide palliative nursing and supportive care to adults, young people and children living with complex or incurable conditions across Essex. This is one of the biggest events in the Essex race calendar and is expected to attract over 1,000 participants, an early entry is advised.
The Chelmsford Marathon is a 26.2 mile single lap course on road and tarmac paths starting in the city centre and finishing in Central Park. A scenic rural route which heads out through the city and then undulates through the nearby countryside and pretty villages of north Essex. The race has a stunning finish line, down an avenue of autumn trees in Central Park.
The race draws a large crowd, with many supporters and friendly marshals on the route to cheer you on. The race is rated highly among runners and comes highly recommended – It’s definitely one to add to your 2021 race diaries.
Entry fee includes:
Technical runner t-shirt
Aid stations on route*
Finish line goodies*
Trophies for winners and leading age categories
Great atmosphere and spectator viewing at the finish
* These are subject to Covid guidelines applying at the time of the race

Using a virtually flat route this accurately measured single lap course starts outside Shire Hall in Chelmsford City Centre and takes runners along the high street and through to Chelmer village and then onto Writtle College and the villages of Roxwell and Willingale before finishing in Central Park.
The race includes a large selection of water and aid stations located at 8 points around the course. There will be selected pacers on the course. Please note there is a cut off time of 8 hours for the event due to health and safety reasons.
First Aid St John Ambulance or an alternative medical provider will be in attendance on the day and the course will be marshalled to provide assistance. There will also be a sweep marshal following the race to ensure that nobody is left behind and that all runners are accounted for.
Your individual time and position will be recorded by your electronic chip. We will endeavour to display results as they come into the race centre. Results will be uploaded to www.nice-work.org.uk as soon as possible after the race. All entrants that have supplied a valid and legible email address will receive a copy of the results as soon as possible after the race.
