The Betteshanger 10 & 5 mile

Start line opens 8.00 am
Start line closes 10.00 am

We’ve been staging events at Betteshanger for around 15 years now so we’re delighted to bring you a brand new race at the venue - the Betteshanger 10 & 5 mile race, which will take place on Sunday 16th May 2021.

Betteshanger is the 121 hectare site of the former Betteshanger colliery in East Kent and the tarmac cycle roadway provides an ideal traffic-free race venue. And because it is totally self-contained, it provides an ideal venue for a Covid-safe event.

Both 10 & 5 mile races will be accurately measured, using the gently undulating tarmac cycle track. Good times should be possible and both races are suitable for both experienced and first-time runners.
The 5 mile race covers two and a bit laps of the circuit, whilst the 10 mile race covers 5 laps with each lap time recorded, meaning you can check your pacing skills.

Why take part?

  • UK Athletics licenced event

  • Plenty of onsite parking

  • High quality bespoke medal

  • Prizes for winners and age category winners in the 10 mile

  • Prizes for leading runners in the 5 mile

  • Accurately measured course with a certificate of course accuracy

  • Chip timing including lap times for both distances

Plus, of course, the support of our friendly, supportive Nice Work team to cheer you round the course.

The perfect event for those itching to get back to live racing.

The race will incorporate our tried and tested Covid safety measures and adhere to the guidelines laid down by UK Athletics.

The Course

The 5 mile race takes in a two lap course with the 10 mile runners completing 4 laps around the tarmac paths within Betteshanger Country Park. Run along the purpose-built cycling track, this route is free of traffic, flat and fast.

First Aid

St John Ambulance will be in attendance on the day and the course will be marshalled to provide assistance. There will also be a sweep marshal following the race to ensure that nobody is left behind and that all runners are accounted for.
Your individual time and position will be recorded by your electronic chip. Results should be available on our website www.nice-work.org.uk as soon as you cross the finish line. Provisional results will be published as soon as possible after the race has finished and final results will be published as soon as is practical on the day after the race.

Trophies and awards will be sent in the post after the event.

All entrants that have supplied a valid and legible email address will receive a copy of the results by email as soon as possible on the first working day after the race.
Race HQ: Betteshanger Country Park (formerly Fowlmead Country Park), Sholden, Deal, Kent CT14 0BF

The Betteshanger 10 & 5 Mile takes place at Betteshanger Country Park (formerly Fowlmead) and is accessible by car, rail - and, of course, on foot and by bike.

The park is accessible by foot via two entrances. The main entrance is off the main roundabout at Shodlen on the A258 Deal to Sandwich Road. The rear gate entrance is a 15 minute walk from Southwall Road, Deal.

For those who wish to drive to the event there is ample parking available at the Race HQ. The park is located just off the A258 approximately 2 miles from Deal, Kent. It is within 10 miles of the A2 at Whitfield. Please note that there is a charge for the car park (£3 per day); however, it gives you a full day's parking, so we encourage runners and spectators to make the most of the visit and take a look around the country park.

The closest railway stations are Deal and Sandwich. You will then need to get a taxi or cycle to the event.
