We are excited to launch the 2021 race dates for our long awaited return to Wendover Woods!
Sadly, the Trail Marathon and Autumn Festival of Running was not able to go ahead in 2020 due to the Covid pandemic. This year because of the growing race calendar, we are launching an Autumn Race Weekend on 20th & 21st November which will include a marathon, half marathon, 10k and Canicross races.
If you are looking for something a little bit different to the big city, mass participation races, then this could be the event for you! You will be running on beautiful off-road forest trails, rewarded with stunning scenery as you clock the miles.
Situated in the beautiful surroundings of the Chiltern Hills, Wendover Woods is a perfect location for trail racing. There is plenty of parking, an on-site Cafe and lots to do for your supporters! Bring the family to enjoy Go Ape Tree Top Adventure, adventure play areas, Gruffalo Trail, bike trails and it's dog friendly!
The route is multi lapped along a challenging undulating course. The event is open to runners of all abilities, from novices to experienced athletes and is perfect for those looking to clock some miles this Autumn.
We will also have a 1k race for our younger runners! All children will receive a medal – Covid restrictions permitting.
The race features chip timing and there will be bespoke medals and finish line goodies on offer to all finishers. There are prizes on offer to leading men and ladies plus a variety of age category prizes and team prizes for both male and female (3 to score).
For those looking to enter the marathon distance - Your entry fee includes:
Quality bespoke medal
Drawstring goody bag
Well stocked aid stations
The registration desk will be open from 8.00am and will be located close to the main car park at the BBQ area. It will be signposted.
There is ample parking in the main car park. Please make sure that you pay the appropriate fee. We recommend that you car share where possible to reduce the impact on other forest users.
Toilets are located next to the café, which is a 5 minute walk down to the Race HQ.
Baggage Drop Off
The Baggage drop off will be located next to the registration desk and will be open from 8.00 am.
The on-site café will be open.
Water and Aid Stations
There will be water and aid stations along the route at approximately 3 mile intervals, including another at the finish line. We will have a combination of water, cola, jelly babies and / or haribo sweets and biscuits. Although we will ensure our water stations are well supplied, athletes are encouraged to bring their own nutrition and carry their own water bottles. We are happy to refill water bottles for you.
Changing and Shower Facilities
There are no changing rooms or showers at this event.
As this race is held on mixed terrain, it cannot be accurately measured. It is a challenging route taking in most of Wendover Woods. This race is classed as undulating but has several significant hills. The terrain is a mainly hard packed trail with some areas through the woods which may be muddy depending on recent weather. We recommend trail shoes but road shoes will be fine.
This is a multiple lapped course, with runners completing 3 laps.
Course Map and elevation profile
St John Ambulance or an alternative medical provider will be in attendance on the day and the course will be fully marshalled to provide assistance to participants. There will also be a sweep marshal following the race to ensure that nobody is left behind and that all runners are accounted for.
As you cross the finish line please make sure you cross over the Chip Timing mat which will automatically record your official time against your race number.
Any runners wearing a bum bag around the course must be careful not to apply pressure to the timing chip on the reverse of your race number. This can cause a problem with the signals from the chip and may affect your race time. This also applies when starting/stopping your watch as you cross the line – please wait until you have crossed the mats before activating or deactivating your watch.
Signal Permitting- Live results will be available on www.nice-work.org.uk during the event and a full set will be posted online shortly after the event has finished. All athletes who provide us with a legible email address will also be emailed the final results on the next working day following the event. If you are missing from the results or need to report an issue, please email us at email@example.com.

"I'm just writing to say how much I enjoyed the event yesterday. It wasn't too big a crowd and the course route was wonderful. I normally struggle on the hills but on this occasion the views were a great distraction to keep my mind off the gradient.
please pass on my thanks to the marshalls (those jelly babies at the water stops were most welcome) and everybody who helped to make this such an excellent event.
I'm definitely going to do this race again in 2020."
